Some people think that it is very important to get a university education

A degree without relevant skills is an empty word. So, to me, skills without a degree are more important than a degree without skills.Nowadays university education plays a predominant role all over the world and some people support university education, whereas others indulge to appreciate the youngsters to enroll into trading activities such as plumbing, painting or building to enrich their knowledge.

 Skill and degree are basically two sides of the same coin, and  only if both work hand in hand can a person be successful or even earn enough to survive.

I have been brought up in India which is the country of knowledge but still works on a stereotype  that only if you have a degree you are worthwhile but this stereotype has either killed their skills set  or disregarded them. Engineering is considered as a very respectful degree but with the abundant engineers in the market the unemployment rate is increasing, and as a matter of fact, 80% of Engineers in India are unemployed and the remaining 20% are the ones who had certain skills besides their degree.

Have you ever thought about what a company is looking for when a candidate?

It just doesn't only consider your degree but also looks for certain skills. Every degree holder is not necessarily skilled. It is the skill that helps you achieve the target.Skill is an abstract term which cannot be evaluated on a piece of paper. It is a broad spectrum which is groomed within the individual and nurtured through the repeated practical implications in life.Every person needs a skill set because a degree can give you a job but growing to greater heights within a organization calls for specific skills .Different companies have different backgrounds, some are product based and some are service based.These companies are looking for candidates who  have the brains to make a product or come up with ideas to  sell the products to the client.The perfect example is that of Elon Musk, whose net worth is 70 billion US dollars. Elon Musk has a BA and  BS degrees but he is the current  CEO of three companies which design cars and spaceships .The man designs his product and also sells all  of his products himself.That is his skill set which makes him a good entrepreneur .

A degree conveys that you have the knowledge that also millions of people have but the skills is what makes us stand out from others because they show that we have self confidence  and experience. It also shows that we have the ability to use our knowledge that  allows us  to  keep up with the progressive market trends in the industry.

So the question still remains, Degree or Skill ? 

For me both are equally important  because a degree will give you a job but the skill is what we need to  grow as a successful  person in any field  which can include even plumbing or a chef.

However, education changes you. Given the elapsed time, a course of education will bring a greater depth of understanding than experience can provide.Thus experience may teach you that ‘doing it that way does not work’, but education gives you the theoretical knowledge and analytical skill to understand why it does not work in that way and what should your approach be to make it work efficiently .Education develops your speed of learning and ability to learn at depth.A certain level of education is required to progress beyond a certain point, i.e. law, accountancy, engineering etc.The ideal is a good combination of both theoretical knowledge and practical understanding, and I believe this is better.
